My oldest is 8 years old now. It’s hard to believe, really. I couldn’t imagine myself with a child older than 5 a few years ago, and now, I’m finding it hard to believe that in 5 years I’ll have a teenager!! Oh my goodness. Eh, it does seem like a long time away though.
Lets see.. I’ve been meaning to post about Kayliana for awhile and my relationship with her. She’s always had the type of personality and attitude that I really thought that as she got older that we would clash and argue a lot. As she’s getting older, I’m finding that it may be the very opposite. She’s enjoying the same things I am, including shows and shopping. She’s growing up and becoming more “mature” so to speak. She is definitely more mature than some 8 year olds I know. My family has always said that it’s hard to believe you are talking to an *enter age here* year old when it comes to her. She’s very easy to talk to and she’s inquisitive and understands a lot. I don’t hide much from her and I talk to her about everything within reason. Everything that goes on with my family, she pretty much knows about. She knows when to not mention certain things to people to avoid hurting them or making them feel bad. For example, someone we are close to just recently had a miscarriage. I told her and she already knew to not mention anything about the “baby” to avoid making this particular person cry. Yes, I had this conversation with her, as I’ve had many difficult conversations with her about what has gone on in our lives over the past few years. She’s thoughtful and she’s got a really big heart. She loves her baby brother and she has the typical sibling relationship with her sister and younger brother.
I believe she confides in me more than her daddy, which is surprising because she has always been – and likely always will be – a Daddys Girl. She’s become the “calm” one of the kids. I really think she’ll be the kiddo that will enjoy doing manicures and pedicures with me.
Everyone thought that she’d be the more girly one over Addison, but I’d say that it is the complete opposite. She’s my sporty one. Though, she has her moments that she’d really just enjoy wearing a skirt and pretty shirt and having her hair done. She still enjoys her picture taken and will pose without any issues, but, she’s always been good about posing for me.
She’s outgrowing the cartoons and is watching more of the “kid” shows – and even some of the shows I watch. Her favorite movie is probably Harry Potter (even though she swore to me just last year that she hated it even though she’d never read the book or seen any of the movies). Her favorite color is probably purple, but it changes so frequently Im not sure. She’s wearing a size 5 in shorts and I’m not sure about pants since we don’t wear them often. Her shirts are a size 6/6x. And finally, a look back at the past 8 years.
